Substitute Custodian
Job Summary:
To provide custodial services to support the delivery of instruction to the students of the district and to promote exemplary care for district facilities.
Reports to: Custodial Supervisor and Site Administrator
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Demonstrate communication skills
- Demonstrate public relations skills
- Minimum age of 18 years
- Ability to perform job responsibilities
- Valid New Mexico Driver’s License
- Must complete a fingerprint background check

- Prior related experience
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow local, state and federal law, adhere to the State Public Education Department Regulations and follow Aztec School Board Policy
- Clean all classrooms daily within the assigned area of the building
- Wash chalkboard or whiteboard daily
- Clean student desks weekly
- Empty trash cans daily
- Vacuum classroom daily
- Dust classroom as needed
- Clean, sanitize, and supply bathrooms
- Wash windows as needed.
- Wax floors twice a school year
- Clean hallway walls, lockers and stairwells monthly
- Use cleaning solutions properly and safely as needed
- Use power equipment as needed, i.e. waxers, buffers, scrubbers, etc.
- Work with students, staff and parents in a positive manner
- Perform minor maintenance repairs, i.e. fix jammed lockers, stuck doors, move furniture, etc.
- Request needed custodial supplies through the Custodial Supervisor
- Follow safety regulations and procedures and use personal protective equipment effectively
- Replace light bulbs as needed using no higher than a six-foot ladder
- Perform summer deep cleaning
- Assist with the relocation of furniture and equipment as needed
- Turn in Maintenance Work Orders using the electronic work order program for major repairs
- Push a supply cart throughout the building, sometimes over carpeting
- Assist with the routine preventative maintenance and repair of custodial equipment
- May assist or perform snow removal activities and minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting furniture, or other similar activities
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
- Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levels
- Unlocks doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areas.
- Operate vacuums and other related equipment
- Use hand and power tools applicable to trade
- Lift and manipulate heavy objects, over 25 lbs.
- Maintain clean building entrances that are free from litter
- Other duties as assigned

This position will require the employee to function at a “Medium” physical capacity as defined by Worker’s Compensation Statutes: “Medium” physical capacity indicates the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally or up to 25 pounds frequently.
