Elementary School Principal

           

Job Summary:         

To serve as the instructional leader and administrative officer of the school.

 

Reports to:   Superintendent

 

 Qualifications:         

  1. New Mexico Administrative License - Level 3B
  2. Knowledge of Elementary School Curriculum and Instruction
  3. Demonstrate Communication and Public Relations Skill
  4. Ability to perform essential job functions and job task requirements
  5. Must complete a finger-print background check

 

Desired Qualifications

  1. Minimum of three years of administrative experience
  2. Knowledge of current trends in education
  3. Knowledge of IDEIA laws and regulations
  4. Knowledge of Data Driven Instructional Practices and Professional Learning Communities

 

Essential Requirements

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of school office procedures, school district protocol, school board policies, administrative rules and regulations, building and district handbooks, and the day-to-day operations of the school.
  2. Initiate parental communications as needed
  3. Perform duties as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent
  4. Keep records and prepare reports as required by the Superintendent
  5. Work with assessment data and modify curriculum according to needs
  6. Assess the needs of the academic program
  7. Make recommendations for new positions, transfers and dismissal of staff to the Superintendent
  8. Assume all responsibilities of curricular and extra-curricular activities
  9. Maintain effective school/community relationships
  10. Organize the staff and administer the school in ways conducive to sound instruction
  11. Direct attendance and attendance record keeping
  12. Provide in-service and other professional development trainings
  13. Initiate staff communication as needed
  14. Assign teachers to and monitor duty stations
  15. Provide frequent observation and feedback using criteria as established by the district and the high school.
  16. Assume responsibility for student daily attendance issues including, tardies, truancy, attendance policy enforcement, student hearings as assigned
  17. Assume responsibility for student discipline
  18. Adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation policies of the school district and notify the proper authorities when repairs or replacements are required in order to maintain established standards
  19. Monitor the grounds and buildings for safety and cleanliness issues
  20. Act as the liaison with local police department
  21. Maintain and update Crisis Response manuals
  22. Facilitate and Monitor different disaster drills
  23. Prepare long range plans for the needs of the school
  24. Prepare and monitor budgets for the school

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position supervises all staff assigned to your school.

Appropriate placement on the AMSD Salary Schedule and the Aztec School District Calendar.

 

Evaluation

Performance of duties will be evaluated at least annually in accordance with Aztec School Board Policy by the Deputy Superintendent

 

Physical Rating Level

This position will require the employee to function at a “Medium” physical capacity as defined by Worker’s Compensation Statutes.  “Medium” physical capacity indicates the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally or up to 25 pounds frequently.
