Title I Reading Teacher
Office of Instruction and Federal Programs
Job Summary
This posiiton is responsible for instructing elementary school students in reading through targeted support to enable them to meet academic standards. Teacher uses a prescribed program and works collaboratively with other personnel to expand student development of appropriate skills, knowledge, and interests in reading.
Reports To: Associate Superintendent of Instruction and Director of Federal Programs
Minimum Qualifications
- A minimum of a New Mexico Level II or III Teaching License (MA in reading or reading endorsement preferred)
- Knowledge of the New Mexico Reading Standards K-12
- Knowledge of needs of students requiring additional support in the area of reading
- Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and implement reading content and instructional strategies for teaching remedial reading
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form
- Ability to communicate effectively in large and small group settings
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, colleagues, parents, and students

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists with the screening and evaluation of students in reading.
- Meets the needs of identified students through individual or small group skills based instruction.
- Develops and delivers lesson plans appropriate to the needs and abilities of assigned students.
- Uses instructional techniques and reading materials appropriate for the age and skill level of students.
- Collaborates with others to identify instructional needs
- Participates in conferences as requested to report student progress.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and creates a safe, orderly and effective environment for learning.
- Maintains thorough records for assigned students.
- Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
Other Duties
- Maintains professional competence by attending staff development programs, curriculum development meetings and other professional activities.
- Participates as a member of the school instructional team in various student and parent activities which occur in school
- Performs any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Certificates, Licenses
Must possess or be eligible to obtain a valid New Mexico driver’s license.
Terms of Employment
Salary and work year per the Aztec School District approved Teacher Salary Schedule and the Aztec School District Calendar.
Evaluation
Performance of duty will be evaluated at least annually in accordance with Aztec School Board Policy.
Physical Rating Level
This position will require the employee to function at a “Medium” physical capacity as defined by Worker’s Compensation Statutes. “Medium” physical capacity indicates the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally or up to 25 pounds frequently.
